Abstract
ABSTRACT
@EN Rathke's cleft cysts are epithelial cysts believed to be derived from remnants of Rathke's pouch. Small incidental Rathke's cleft cysts are identified between the anterior and posterior lobes of pituitary gland in 2 to 26% of routine
autopsies.
But
symptomatic Rathke's cleft cysts are extremely rare and about 150 cases have been reported since 1913.
A 58-year-old man who had had hypogonadal symptoms (no axillary hair, few public hair, decreased sexual desires from 20 years ago) was admitted to our hospital due to diplopia for 5 months. Intrasellar and suprasellar mas of low signal intensity
on
T1-weighted image and high signal intensity on T2-weighted image was found on the MRI of brain and avascular or hypovascular sellar and suprasellar mass displacing the adjacent vessel was found on the carotid angiography. So under the diagnosis
of
cystic sellar tumor. Rathke's cleft cyst was diagnosed finally and patient is followed with replacement of glucocorticoid and thyroid hormone. (J Kor Endocrinol 8:94~99, 1993)
